a smile to melt your heart

Reese now flashes a closed-lip smile when she sees us, hears us, or we tickle her belly. And we're not talking about a gas induced smile. This is the real thing!! Harris and I can't get enough of it--and Aunt Shira was lucky to get smiles as well. And it came just in time. Reese had also begun crying real tears when she was in duress--and it broke my heart. So now with tears we have smiles--at least we're well balanced!

with a month under her belt...

Reese is one month old today, and we celebrated by graduating her to baths in the tub. no more sponge baths for her!! besides being born, she's made quite a few accomplishments this month. Reese was honored in her Jewish naming ceremony and was given the Hebrew name Raya, after our friend who introduced us. She's been to the doctor twice (all routine), restaurants three times, and took her first weekend trip to the jersey shore. she's more skilled at holding her head up, tracking objects with her eyes, and recognizing our faces. she's awake more of the day now and has slept a one-time seven hour stretch at night. it's all routine stuff in an infant's life, but to us it's nothing short of magical...

It's a girl!!

We waited to find out the sex of the baby -- and I was convinced we were having a boy. But, low and behold, I was wrong. We have a baby girl!!! Reese Emma Ader was born 6.14.08 @ 8:07am. She weighed in at 7.5 lbs and was 21.5 inches long (why isn't this "tall??")

We celebrated father's day on reese's second day of life. Can i deliver with a father's day gift or what? Reese showed her enthusiasm with her "i love daddy" onesie--and Harris never looked happier.

We spent a few nights in the hospital and are excited to now be at home. Bringing our new baby home was a completely surreal experience for harris and me. While driving home (at a racing speed of 20 mph) harris remarked that the whole world looks different now that we have a baby. And that certainly seems true. I've never felt a greater sense of accomplishment than I do for caring for Reese. And it's only the beginning!!!

welcome to our blog!

we live in a world being bombarded by "brangelina" and "tomkat." and are we any less glamorous?? our friends dubbed our baby "maggris" and, well, it just stuck. so this blog is dedicated to our family: myself, harris, and baby maggris. when our baby makes it's official entrance into the world (in about a month), we'll have to assign a less tease-worthy name. but for now, our lives are all about maggris.
